If you love reading, you know that sometimes all you need in life is a good book. Although we know an avid reader can read anywhere, a comfortable chair and good lighting never hurt anyone.  No matter how skimped on space you are, we guarantee that you can create the cosiest of reading nooks in your home by following the few steps we’ve outlined below.

Step 1: Find the perfect spot
The first step to creating a cosy reading nook is to identify the perfect spot in your home to get started. Most often, this means an L-shaped corner or alcove in your room, preferably by a window.

Chances are, you might have to rearrange some of your existing furniture to make space, but we guarantee it’ll be worth it.

Step 2: Take a seat
The next step to creating the perfect reading nook is to find the perfect chair! Comfort should be at the top of your list when you’re looking to take a seat. Wing chairs, armchairs, beanbags, plush chairs that swallow you up while you read – the possibilities are endless.

When you’re chair-shopping, be sure to spend some time sitting in it first. After all, you’re going to be spending a whole lot of time there.

Step 3: Make it comfy
Now that you’ve got your hands on the perfect chair for your reading nook, you need to up the comfort level! Add some decorative pillows or cushions around your chair to scale up the cosiness factor or a plush area rug to sink your feet into.

Keep a fluffy throw or blanket slung around the back of your chair, only to be pulled over you as you read. Now that’s the stuff dreams are made of.

Step 4: Brighten it up
Lighting is one of the most important functional elements in creating your own reading nook. In fact, lighting is the most important element in most modern interior design ideas. If the nook you’ve created in your home is by a window, you have the liberty of enjoying that natural light streaming in.

But that doesn’t mean that you don’t need a good light source for when you’re reading at night. Floor lamps or table lamps are great options for reading nooks. Just make sure the ones you choose are adjustable so that you can position the beam wherever you choose.

Step 5: Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!
Now that your cosy reading nook is almost ready, it’s time to style it up with these great interior decorating ideas. You can do this with a number of elements and accessories that suit your personal taste.

Grab an ottoman to curl your feet up on while you read, place some scented candles on your table by your nook to create an aromatic atmosphere, install a space-saving floor-to-ceiling bookshelf to maximise space and store your loot or place a lush indoor plant nearby for a touch of greenery.

With these simple yet effective home decor ideas, you can create a reading nook that you won’t ever want to leave!
