Granny Chic - a new trend in interior design, that uses décor elements from generations past to create a charming old vibe. Think of your grandma’s cosy, vintage décor that focused on a lot of handmade items as your inspiration. Placing vintage, antique, thrift store, and handmade items together with new pieces of furniture adds an inviting warmth and personal feel to your living spaces.

This hot new trend uses crocheted, knitted, quilted and other handmade items to add warmth and colour to the overall look and feel of the room. It is easy to pull colours from vintage and antique pieces to spruce up the walls and to find new accessories to mix with the old items that now have a new purpose and look.

1. Floral Patterns
One very popular element of design to use in Granny Chic decor is floral patterns. You can add this element in fabrics for your furniture, throw pillows, bedspreads, drapes, or even wallpaper. It is up to you whether you want a bold statement or a subtle statement.

2. Vintage Furniture
Another great way to add some Granny Chic decor to a room is with vintage furniture. Having one piece with a floral pattern will really add warmth and romantic charm to any room. Remember – do not ever over do it with floral patterns. One point works well.

You can always pick a vintage design in a love seat or chair and use floral cushions to integrate a Granny Chic vibe to your decor.

3. Lace and Trims
It’s the small touches that really make a difference when it comes to a vintage Granny Chic theme. Think lace, satin, crotched and knitted accents all over your home. Be it for cushion covers, artwork, doilies, bed linen or table linen

4. Afghans and Throws
Add an afghan to the living room, family room or bedroom. Not only do handmade items add to the look for your Granny Chic decor but they can have function and purpose in a room.

A crocheted or knitted afghan can add colour and also be used to cuddle in when the days and nights are chilly.

5. Decorative Accessories
Granny Chic decor is all about finding new ways to use older items. Remember that cake plates and tiered tray you inherited from Grandma? Get those out and integrate them with your decor! The same can be done for vintage tea sets, trays, ashtrays, decorative soap dishes, jewellery boxes and more.

Give in to your boho-chic style and use colourful pebbles or seashells in glass tumblers, decorated around the living room, bathrooms and family room.
